WHEN DRUGS TORE MY FAMILY APART
WHEN DRUGS TORE MY FAMILY APART
I remember the first time my brother, Chike, came home with bloodshot eyes. My mother thought he was just tired from work. But slowly, the lies began.
Money disappeared from her purse, my father’s tools vanished from the shed, and excuses became the rhythm of our home.
At first, we didn’t connect the dots. But then came the late nights, the endless fights, and the silence that followed when trust had been broken beyond words.
My parents, once inseparable, could hardly look at each other. Blame passed back and forth like a heavy stone.
My mother wept in the kitchen at night, asking what she had done wrong. My father, too angry to speak, withdrew into himself.
Drugs had not just consumed my brother, they had consumed us all.
Addiction is never a private matter; it eats into the fabric of a family, leaving behind shredded love and unspoken pain.
But here’s what many families don’t realise: help exists. Addiction is an illness, not a curse.
The cycle can be broken with counselling, medical intervention, and honest conversations. Families can heal. Trust can be rebuilt. I’ve seen it happen.
Chike is not fully there yet, but with therapy, support groups, and unconditional love balanced with firm boundaries, he is slowly finding his way back. And so are we.
If your family is hurting because of drug abuse, please know this: You are not alone, and silence is not the answer. Talk about it. Seek help. The earlier, the better.
Let’s spark this conversation. Share your experience. Someone needs to hear your story today.
